CENTRAL COACHES CHAIR MARCH 2019 MONTHLY NEWSLETTER
ATTENTION CENTRAL DIVISION RACERS & COACHES
Welcome to March Greatness! This is our Championship Season for us all. A lot of travel and hard work goes into keeping our athletes at the top of their game this time of year. Congratulations goes out to all the Central Coaches for all the hard work that you have put in this season. One of the really positive things that I have noticed as your Central Coaches Chair is how much cooperation is going on between teams and coaches reaching out to support each other across our different programs and areas within the Central Division. Personally, I really enjoyed seeing us all together in Marquette for the Bob Hosking U14/U16 Championships. All of you coaches deserve a lot of credit for making it happen. You all worked extremely hard and I know this will make us better and stronger as a Central Division moving forward.
As Program Directors & coaches we will have an opportunity in April to increase our education for our staffs with US Ski & Snowboard bringing a Level 100, Level 200 and Course Setting Class to the Central Division at Granite Peak Ski Area. Your staff and you can register on-line at: MY USSA with your member username and password. Select USSEC in the toolbar. Register for Level 100 (April 5th & 6th), Level 200 (April 5th – 7th) and/or the Course Setting Clinic is on Thursday, April 4th.
We will be having the US Ski & Snowboard Central Division Skills & Thrills weekend for your athletes on April 7th & 8th at Granite Peak Ski Area. This will be the fourth year of having this event and it has grown each year with both more athletes and coaches attending. This will give our Central athletes an opportunity to continue skiing into April with the focus being on skill development. The US Ski & Snowboard Physical Assessment will be a part of this camp with the highlight being a Dual Panel Slalom on Sunday afternoon. US Ski & Snowboard Rocky/Central Youth Development Manager Anje Worrell will be leading this Camp and we need coaches to help assist with the on-hill coaching. Angie will be holding a Coaches Education Clinic on Saturday, April 6th in the evening to help coaches needing CEC credits. Our goal is to give our athletes throughout the Central Division opportunities to come together as ONE and train, develop new friendships and provide the best possible learning opportunities for all our Central athletes. More information will be coming out in the next week or so. Please plan on attending with your athletes.
Coaches, please remember that your athletes that have qualified for the U14 & U16 Rocky/Central Junior Championships also have qualified for the US Ski Rocky/Central Skills Camp over Memorial Day Weekend at A-Basin, CO. Last year we had 13 athletes attend from Central, eight from CR2, two from CR1 and three from CR3/4. This is a great opportunity for our Central athletes to ski for five days with their peers from Rocky. I hope we are able to fill our quota of 30 athletes this coming May 23rd through May 27th. Questions should be directed toward our US Ski & Snowboard Rocky/Central Manager Darlene Nolting.
There are still many opportunities for our athletes to compete in the Central Division. There will be the U14/U12/U10/U8 Central Division Brule Finale held at Ski Brule on March 16th & 17th. Ski Brule is also offering an additional Training Day Special for Friday, March 15th. There will be awards to the 10th place for all events. What a great opportunity to build your program and introduce your young racers and their families to U.S. Ski & Snowboard.
Afton Alps will be holding the US Ski & Snowboard Central Division Scored Championships & Central Non-scored Spring Fling on March 23th & 24th with the opportunity for the athletes to win a CAR. Both events are open to all Central Division athletes and this is a great time to celebrate the sport we love and keep our athletes training and skiing!
Finally, our Central FIS MIDAM Championships will be held in Lutsen, MN beginning Thursday, March 21st through Sunday, March 24th. Please, coaches get your “GREEN SHEETS” into Eric Cates so we can secure our quotes.
I hope to see all of the athletes, parents, and coaches in the Central Division continue to come together and support working together to make the Central Division STRONG!
