The Central FIS athletes just completed the U19 National Slalom Qualifiers at Spirit Mountain this past weekend. It was great to have full fields and outstanding competition for our Central athletes. These races gave each of our Central programs a chance to assess their FIS program and where changes may need to take place to help make our Central Division stronger.

Each Club (team) within the Central Division is preparing their athletes for the upcoming U14/U16 Central Championship (Qualifiers) for the Rocky/Central Junior Championships held at Marquette Mountain beginning Friday, February 22nd through Sunday, February 24th. Here is the link to the FACT SHEET:

As we prepare our athletes for these U14/U16 Central Championship races, it will be the first time in a number of years that all of the Central Division will come together to race “head-to-head”. This opportunity is afforded the Central Division by the hard work and numerous meetings that the Coaching Chairs had over the last spring and summer. I would like to thank the efforts of Tony Olin (CR1), Sidney Koop (CR2) and Dan Janowiak (CR3) in helping make this happen, along will all the coaches in Central Division for their input. This Central Division Championship for U14/U16 will help us as the Central Division become much stronger moving forward.

Our FIS athletes will get another opportunity to race on March 19th and March 20th in Thunder Bay, Canada. This will be four (4) FIS Slalom events, two each day, that are not part of the Mid-America Series, but additional opportunities for our Central athletes to compete before the Central FIS MIDAM Championships held at Lutsen Mountain, MN on Thursday, March 21st through Sunday, March 24th. Please watch for updates on this event coming from our Central Manager, Eric Cates.

Finally, the Central Division will be holding a Coaches Level 100 & 200 events at Granite Peak Ski Area (Wausau, WI) beginning on Friday, April 5th through Sunday, April 7th. This will be a great opportunity to improve the education of our Central Coaches within our Division. I have been told that a course setting class will be held as part of this training. Questions regarding this event should be addressed to Anna Hosmer:

The Coaches Level 200 Course will be held in conjunction with the Central Division April Skills & Thrills Camp held at Granite Peak (Wausau, WI) on Saturday, April 6th & Sunday, April 7th. Our goal is to give our athletes throughout the Central Division late season opportunities to come together (i.e. last year we had over 70+ athletes attend this project) as ONE and train, develop new friendships and provide the best possible learning opportunities for all our Central athletes and coaches. This project will be headed up by our Rocky/Central Youth Development Coordinator, Anje Worrell.

I hope to see all of the athletes, parents, and coaches in the Central Division come together and support working together to make the Central Division STRONG!
