Overview 2018-2019 Season
Metro Cup is a race series that consists of 3-4 days of racing for athletes under 12 years of age as of December 31st, designed for younger racers looking at testing their skills against other USSA athletes in our region. Your athlete’s involvement also gives them the unique opportunity of experiencing USSA racing without the commitment of a full USSA season. It is open to any athlete, including those receiving instruction outside of a full USSA club program, e.g., athletes participating in WJR, WIJARA, NASTAR racing and the like.
The race series is held with existing USSA races in Region 2, and are designated with the Metro Cup tag. Each race counts towards the series finale total. End of season awards will be given for each gender and age group at the last event of the season. Athletes are eligible each weekend (along side full time USSA athletes) to qualify for daily awards for each respective age group and gender.
The series will include a mix of slalom and giant slalom. Each Metro Cup weekend will also include a SkillsQuest development and evaluation period for those involved to help promote strong skill development. The season will end at Tyrol Basin with an action packed weekend with racing on Saturday and Sunday competition.
Metro Cup athletes are only eligible to race in the USSA Metro Cup races but there is an opportunity to upgrade and add additional races throughout the season. Please see the special note below on how to go about this.
Total cost is $75 for U8-U10 and $125 for U12 racers, which includes a USSA competition membership (with associated insurance) and entry to all races in the series.
2018-2019 Metro Cup Annual Dues
Age Group National/Central Region 2 Total
U8 & U10 $25 $50 $75
U12 $75 $50 $125
12/23 – Sunburst (Slalom)
1/26-27 -SkillsQuest Camp
2/10 – Chestnut (Giant Slalom)

End of the season Metro Cup awards will be on Sunday March 3rd at Tyrol Basin. Awards will be presented to the top 10 competitors by age group (U8, U10, U12) and gender.
Athletes will be broken down by gender and into age classes (U8, U10, U12) and awarded points for finishes in each race according to the place points system. The individual competitor’s best 3 of 4 races will determine the season-long standings.
Each race day we will have one race consisting of two runs. Each individual run at each race day will count towards the total athletes total place points for that weekend. For example, if an athlete places 1st in the first run of the race and then is 8th in the second run of the same race, the athletes total place points for that race weekend would be 9.
In the event of a canceled race, the overall season results will be based on one less than the total number of events. At the end of the season, ties between two or more athletes with the same number of points will be broken by the athlete who has the greater number of first place finishes. In the event the tied athletes have the same number of first place finishes, the tie will then be broken the number of second place finishes, and so on, until the tie can be broken.
